Coaching is a goal-oriented way for its clients to practice personal accountability for what happens in their lives. It focuses on the desired outcome of the client and separates that goal from her own interpretations about herself and her life. The client has already surmised that the current interpretations are not serving him well, so coaching will empower him to try new methods that are aligned with his motivation to reach his full potential.
Transformational coaching is an accurate term, because this type of coaching centers on the states of being that generate actions, which move the client either closer to or further away from her desired goals. Shifting how an individual is being rather than focusing on what he is doing inspires transformation, because the way he is being is transferable to every other aspect of his life. In so doing, the client’s perspective broadens, allowing more possibilities to exist.
