This is an excerpt from Stephen R. Covey’s “Daily Reflections For Highly Effective People“.

“If my sense of security lies in my reputation or in the things I have, my life will be in a constant state of threat and jeopardy that these possessions may be lost or stolen or devalued.  If I’m in the presence of someone of greater net worth or fame or status, I feel inferior.  If I’m in the presence of someone of lesser net worth or fame or status, I feel superior.  My sense of self-worth constantly fluctuates.  I don’t have any sense of constancy or anchorage or persistent selfhood.  I am constantly trying to protect and insure my assets, properties, securities, position, or reputation.”

“Life is a great big canvas and you should throw all the paint you can on it.”

   ~ Danny Kaye

paint-picture.jpgWith that kind of attitude in life, you’ll go far.  You create your reality - your hopes, your dreams, your aspirations are the paint on the canvas of your life.

Dare to dream - dream big - and get started painting your own picture!

“Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them.”

   ~ Albert Einstein

What problems do you have in your life right now that are holding you back?  Is it financial, health, career - or all of them?  Consider approaching the adversity in your life from a different perspective.  Ask, “What is the lesson here?  What course correction do I need to make”

By asking the right questions, you’ll receive inspired thought - a different awareness than the one that created your problems.  That’s how you build your empowerment muscle!

“Remember, success is not measured by heights attained but by obstacles overcome. We’re going to pass through many obstacles in our lives: good days, bad days. But the successful person will overcome those obstacles and constantly move forward.”

~ Bruce Jenner - Olympian, Speaker and Entrepreneur

We all have obstacles and adversity in our lives to overcome.  How we deal with that adversity, how we navigate the obstacles in our life will determine how successful, happy and abundant our lives are.  We have a choice before us…

  • learn how to move past the adversity and obstacles in our lives and become a better person for it;

 OR

  • ignore the adversity and obstacles and watch as the number and power of the adversity increases.

Adversity and obstacles ignored means that the message they are delivering is being ignored as well.  The messages will keep coming stronger and with greater intensity until the message is heard and adjustments to your life are made.

Which is your choice?

“Carefully watch your THOUGHTS,

   for they become your WORDS.

Manage and watch your WORDS,

for they will become your ACTIONS.

Consider and judge your ACTIONS,

for they have become your HABITS.

Acknowledge and watch your HABITS,

for they shall become your VALUES.

Understand and embrace your VALUES,

   for they become YOUR DESTINY.”

     ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Your thoughts are generated based on your beliefs.  What do you believe - about yourself, your abilities, your potential, your circle of influence?  Explore the core of your being by exploring and evaluating what you believe.  Change your beliefs if they don’t serve you and watch your life change!

Check out Ray Dodd’s book, BeliefWorks: The Art of Living Your Dreams

Here’s what Ray had to say recently about beliefs:

We live in turbulent times, especially with the current economic crisis. Is it possible to feel at peace, grateful and abundant  in this unsettled environment? If you want to understand how your beliefs influence your life, then this is an important question.

First of all, do you truly believe deep down that you deserve happiness, well-being, and all the abundance that life has to offer, or is this just an intellectual agreement undermined by how you behave and feel when life tests you?

There is often a disconnect between what you have in mind and what you believe. For example, if you are nervous how easy is it to tell your self to relax and think positive thoughts? The mind is often overpowered by the pervasiveness of what you believe. What you believe is what you project into the world. Your beliefs deeply impact your actions, your thoughts, and your words. And thus real change occurs when you identify and change what you believe.

“There are those of us who are always about to live. We are waiting until things change, until there is more time, until we are less tired, until we get a promotion, until we settle down — until, until, until. It always seems as if there is some major event that must occur in our lives before we begin living.”

     ~ Dr. George A. Sheehan

It will never be the ’perfect’ time to begin living your dream.  The hardest part is beginning…so just begin.  Each step becomes easier as you get closer to your goal.  What are you waiting for?  Begin it now!

going-the-distance.jpgDr. George A. Sheehan was best known for his books and writings on running.  His book, Running & Being: The Total Experience, became a New York Time best seller.  Dr. Sheehan believed that the young and the old share two great yearnings:  for love and for knowledge.

His last book, Going the Distance: One Man’s Journey to the End of His Life, is about “what dying actually means to the person undergoing it.”

Dr. Sheehan ultimately won the greater struggle in his life; finding peace of mind

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goals.”

     ~ Henry Ford

goal.jpgOf course, having a goal is the most important thing…next comes focusing on the end result.  Put your attention and energy on what you do want (the outcome) and not the obstacles in your path.

Attention goes, where energy flows and results will show!

“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”

     ~ Author Unknown

new-day.jpgNo matter what you’ve done (or haven’t done) in the past - whatever successes or failures - today is the day to begin anew.

Get rid of the baggage from yesterday, the hurts-the disappointments-the things you’d rather forget, and make the decision to make today the first day of the rest of your life.

You have the power to create your life as you want it.  It’s never too late to start now!

Quote of the Day

"We live in times of high stress. Messages that are simple, messages that are inspiring, messages that are life-affirming, are a welcome break from our real lives."

~ Simon Sinek
